Man you're ripped! (...jeans are awesome.)

As some of you may know already Topshop have been having a massive sale at the moment and when I went in I was doomed as soon as I saw the jeans rail which actually had quite a few things in my size. Unfortunately though I was that annoying customer who comes in 10 minutes before closing time so I didn't have enough time to thoroughly look through what they had but I still picked up some jeans and one pair were these:

They were £15 in the sale so I would have probably regretted it if I left them behind because they are perfect for looking edgy and oversized if I'm having a day where I want people to think "Woah don't mess with that chick." And they are just pretty cute. Anyway I thought the rips that were only in the knee looked a bit too large to come off as naturally distressed by themselves so I decided to add a few more holes n stuff. I used this blog post (basically one of the first results on google lol) to help me do this but im going toshow you how I did it anyway how. It's so simple & I hope you enjoy!

Things you need:

  • Pen
  • Jeans
  • Stanley knife or any sharp blade
  • A magazine you are willing to destroy
  • Needle (optional)
Guide:

1. So imagine I am holding that expertly photoshopped pen. You want to put on the jeans you intend to distress and begin to draw lines where you would like to make rips. Try to keep to places where there would typically be natural tears such as the knees, bottom of the jeans and thighs. I didn't add the pictures but I also added some rips to the pockets of my jeans.

2.Get the rest of your equipment.

3. Slide a magazine into the leg of your jeans and always make sure that it is under the area you are cutting; this will keep both your surface and yourself safer.
4.  On a stable surface (for the love of god don't do this on your lap), begin to tear the jeans, using the blade you have, along the lines you have drawn. PLEASE mind your fingers and hands during this part as amputating body parts is not the main aim here.

5. After ripping away you can choose to take the needle and pull more threads out of the rips just to make them look a little less artificial.

This is my result:

Putting the jeans through the wash once before wearing can help distress the jeans to make them look like they have been worn out over time.

*Salesman voice* So if YOU are looking to turn YOUR anger into fashion this summer...

Please feel free to leave any advice for others in the comments and also comment with links to your blogs and I will check them out as I am trying to find more blogs to follow.

Get to know me!

Hey guys! So I have been incredibly busy lately because it has been exam season here in Britain, but guess what? IT'S OVER! So now it's another year until the month of stress and avoiding work and then instantly regretting it comes again - woooo. But since exams are over with now and I have 100% less stress and work I really want to try and start focusing and being more consistent with my blog, THEREFORE I thought I would do a get to know me tag that I found whilst googling 'get to know me blogger tags'. Big up google.

1) Tell us 5 random facts about yourself.
*Self-knowledge block* Let's see:

  1. I absolutely love film and TV! Some of my favourite films include all of Quinton Tarantino's, basically all Marvel films, Disney of course and the list could go on foreverrrr. T.V. wise I worship 'Game of Thrones' (fuck the king), 'The Walking Dead' and 'New Girl' - I am also mid way through both 'Breaking Bad' and American Horror Story'.
  2. I am absolutely rubbish at being organised and sticking to routines. Also very forgetful when it comes to important stuff.
  3. I really don't know where my pay pack goes but I suspect that food and clothes have something to do with it.
  4. Oh! My name is Emily (Rose is my middle name, creating 'emsyrose') and I am 16. Also from England. I reallyyyy should have put that in here earlier, whoops.
  5. My one true love is Pokemon. Gone from childhood friends to lovers.
2) When is your birthday?
My birthday is on August the 6th so it's a given that on basically every birthday I have had a BBQ, not complaining AT ALL (I also take pride in being a Leo, I mean who doesn't like lions except every animal that is their prey (chattin shit now)).

3) What is your favourite colour?
I really love creams and pastels. Literally every colour in pastel.

4) What is your favourite memory?
So far... hmm... it would probably have to be the three times I have gone skiing, there is nothing better than being with friends, in a different country doing something you all love. Everyone comes back a little bit better than when they left. I can't really think of a particular one, I'm sorry!

5) Describe a day in your life.
Wake up. Check internet. Eat breakfast. Have a wash and get ready. Leave for either college or work. Come home from either college or work. Do homework or even more likely read/watch films or T.V./Tumblr, all that kinda jazz.
6) Name 5 of your favourite songs.
At the moment:
  1. Never Tear Us Apart - INXS
  2. LA Calling - Crystal Fighters
  3. Something Good Can Work - Two Door Cinema Club
  4. Make My Sun Shine - Swim Deep (HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEIR ENTIRE ALBUM!)
  5. The Mother We Share - CHVRCHES
7) If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be and why?
Gunna cheat and say two. Pizza or Pasta. Reason No.1, they are absolutely scrummy and reason No.2, Italy rules.

8) What is something you really dislike?
Animal abuse. It is so fucking cruel and disgusting and anyone who does it deserves to be treated like a filthy animal themselves because they are scum that don't deserve to breath. How could you harm something that is so incredibly defenceless and innocent. How could you harm the incredible creatures that walked on this Earth way before the human race came along and decided they wanted their world for themselves. THAT is something that really gets my gears grinding to the point where I see a wild animal, fox or something, that has died due to being hit by a car and begin to hate the human race because if we never invented cars and been so careless then that would never have happened. UGH.

9) Summer or Winter?
Even though I do like lounging around in the sun I will probably have to say Winter because Christmas, New Year, jumpers, hot drinks, more films...

10) If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live and why?
Where I live now is quite nice because it is an amazing area for beaches and shopping and is also friendly. Butttt, I would like to live somewhere else in Europe, maybe Italy or France but the USA or Canada also seem like awesome places to live. Culture... somewhere culture.

11) Name 5 of your favourite films.
Basically already answered that one but I shall try and shoot out some names (this list also changes):
  1. Donnie Darko
  2. Pulp Fiction
  3. Lady and the Tramp
  4. Superman (1978)
  5. Home Alone
12) If you won the lottery what would you buy?
I would make sure my family have enough money to be sorted for like and then I would achieve the life long ambition of getting a Macbook. I would use the money to pay for university and travelling; I would also donate to charities.

13) Favourite day of the week?
Probably Tuesday because I have all of the good subjects at college and also get to see friends there, Then i get to come home early. Also saver Tuesdays at the cinema so I normally go there and get to see more friends. :)

14) What three things would you take to a desert island?
Other than basic life saving essentials I would take my dog (as long as there was food for him), suncream and a book.

15) Sweet or Savoury?
Sweet. ALL DAY, SON. ALL DAY.

16) Early bird or night owl?
Unfortunately both. I like waking up quite early so I don't feel like I've wasted the day but I also like staying up to read or well, at the moment, watch 'Breaking Bad'. Absolute stonker for my sleeping clock.

17) Name 5 of your favourite books.
Another aim of mine now is to start reading more.

  1. Perks of Being a Wallflower
  2. Eleanor and Park
  3. The Hunger Games trilogy
  4. The Fault in Our Stars
  5. Divergent trilogy
18) Who do I tag next?
I tag you all! If you do decide to do the tag leave a comment answering one of the questions or even a link to your blog where you have done the post and I will check out your blog as I'm always looking for new blogs and friends to follow!

I hope you all enjoyed and learnt a bit more about me. P.S. congratulations if you made it to the end! :)

Sex & Consent: Must watch for everyone.

After seeing the video, created by the Youtuber Charlie Mcdonnell (also known among us youths as 'charlieissocoollike') that was uploaded as part of the government 'This is abuse campaign', which has also made it's way onto other media platforms such as TV to raise awareness of lack of consent or controlling behaviour in relationships, I have pretty much determined that everyone should watch this; regardless whether you are male or female or young or old.

Many youtubers are not ones to share such personal information as Charlie bravely did in this video and honestly, I think Charlie has just gone and gained the respect of thousands of people across this world by openly admitting the age he lost his virginity and his ever so correct views on sexual relations as part of the scheme - after all why should he (or anybody) feel ashamed of such a natural thing.

As the years pass by it unfortunately becomes more apparent that young people are feeling more pressure to perform sexual relations, either under the pressure of friends or their partner and the strains of society. This video also brings the refreshing feel that is hearing a person, who has so many easily influenced people admire them, use their platform for exactly the right reason.

Charlie most importantly addressed the issue concerning consent after his friend and fellow Youtuber of several years, Alex Day, admitted to being manipulative and unfaithful as well as rude in his relationships, that were predominantly with fans. Charlie raises awareness of the precautions people should make in their relationships to recognise the signals of their other half saying 'no'. I believe that couples, or ya know, people in general, should be made more aware of how to distinguish the signs of a person saying 'no'; that is not just through the word, but also through body language and more subtle signals. Alex Day himself has taken to Tumblr to apologize to his fans, those who have supported him and most importantly his victims. On his Tumblr, where his apologies and self-recognition of his actions can be found, he has stated  "...the model of consent that I followed, not that I specifically thought about it at the time - was that only “no” meant “no.” That is not what consent is."

Awareness of sexual relationships and consent are issues that are becoming even more vital to inform, particularly young adults, about. The recognition and courageousness of victims speaking out are also, thankfully, increasing, and attention of such issues from significant figures that are now widely known on growing platforms, such as Youtube, are exactly what is needed to help aid and give confidence to people who may be in abusive, controlling or manipulative relationships.

Love?

Recently a lot of things have been triggering the subject of love up in my mind lately; what is love? Why do we feel as if we need love? Why do we feel as if we need it from different people and  how do we find it?

Now being one who hasn't experienced many occurrences with the romantic kind of love, it is easy to think and whine to myself "Ohh I've never felt love, I probably never will" etc. etc. But reflecting on it now I begin to realise how stupid and selfish it is to think and feel as if you have never been loved when, in fact, it is always around you. I am fortunate enough to have a lovely family and a close group of friends and, although we may not be the kind of people to go out spurting "I love you" at the end of every conversation, when you look at your relationships from a 3rd person perspective, you realise that it is there all the time.

In my family life personally, I know it is there when my dad picks me up when it is raining, or when my mum still makes my lunch-box even after 16 years despite the fact that I should obviously be doing it myself. I also feel my love for them mostly when I don't want to disappoint them or when I want to make them proud - also when they make me proud. I also feel it towards my brother when I am proud of him for over-coming something or succeeding in his work; I also know it is there because when they are happy, I am happy.

With my friends, although they will rip the piss out of me for writing this if they ever see it, I know that there is a different kind of strange love there. We talk to each other everyday, just when we have news or a thought or anything really, we will go most places with each other even if one of us doesn't want to go and we just feel so comfortable around each other. Like scarily comfortable. You can't even describe the kind of love that is between friends, it has just been planted there at some point of your lives and has just grown unknowingly and it never goes away. The kind of love you all cringe at the aspect of but can't deny it is there.

Now to love love, the kind of love that lovers love with if you get me. Although this hasn't happened to me (ahem yet), I don't really know where it comes from. Although I mildly believe in love at first sight and love (haha love) the aspect of it, I think that the best loves come out of friendships. Getting to know someone is something that makes you fall in love with the person. I think from this, a larger kind of love can grow making it the lovey kinda love. I think with love it also cannot be forced - you have to be patient. (I very almost started ranting about the 'being hard to get' stereotype but I quickly deleted it because it doesn't belong in this post, but I think I will make a ranty post about that and link it here.) But saying this, I also think that love can happen by chance and that a lot of the time, romance is friendship built on top of a chance, i.e. meeting someone by chance, and deciding or being able to build a friendship on top of that, which then goes into the process of love etc. I really don't even know where I am going with this.

As for why we need and want it, I believe it is because, as dependent creatures, we need to feel needed and we like to be able to rely on a close range of people for certain things. We like to be able to share our thoughts with people, and the thoughts that we can't share with them people, we like to be able to share with a single person who lovey love. I think we also like leaving our marks on people and it is interesting when you see how a person acts and speaks because of the people who surround them, people who have made their marks. I also like the quote "It's exciting when you find parts of yourself in someone else." (I think it pretty much speaks for itself.)

Also remember how we come to love animals and pets (wont get into that).

Although I haven't wrote as much as I could on this topic, I will stop here because I don't want to keep you here any longer. In a semi kind of mini conclusion, I think that love is a controversial and risky topic to talk about because its ideas and values are different for every person and that when you think you have definitely made a statement about love, another thought questions it and you begin to question whether your whole idea of love is wrong. This post got way more complicated than planned and it doesn't even have a real meaning but I hope you all have a lovely Valentine's day and even if you don't have a valentine, it's okay, because love is always around you.

Oh my daisies

So as I have been window shopping (and maybe shopping shopping (oops)) I noticed that for spring floral patterns are coming back in massively, which, lets admit, is no big surprise as they do every year. But a certain kind of flower kept popping up in almost every shop I went in - Primark, New Look, River Island, Dorothy Perkins, Topshop etc. DAISIESSSS!

This post really doesn't have any real purpose but I just thought I would share some of the purchases I made and also share some links to the other pieces I saw but didn't get.

I'll start with the purchases I made:

1. This dress was from New Look and was £14.99. Added with the accessories bought from River Island, some black tights and either Chelsea boots or dolly shoes, I think this would be a cute little outfit. Even cuter considering they were all bought with gift cards meaning no money of mine was sacrificed. Click here for the dress.

2/3/4/5. It really isn't that often that I even buy let alone wear jewellery, but I saw these simple rings and bracelet in River Island and thought: "ya know what, screw it." So yes I bought them. Even though they may never see the light of day, I think they would match perfectly with either the dress or the top. What's even better is that none of them came to more than £3. Click here for the bracelet. Click here for ring (No.3). Click here for rings (No.4). Click here for ring (No.5).

6. This T-shirt was £6 from Primark. I love it as it can look great with anything; a skirt, leggings, trousers, even thrown on top of a dress. A great cheap buy. I also just came across a post on Primark's website featuring their other daisy print products and them rambling on about daisy n stuff. (Click here).

Whilst I'm here I'll also throw in some more bits n bobs I found whilst out on the hunt:

Fresh 'do for a fresh year.

Hello readers/followers! Firstly I would just like to say thank you for reading this, especially considering that this is my first ever post on this blog.

Without further ado; another year has passed and another one has already braced itself upon us. This year I haven't set myself any New Year's resolutions except stay happy I guess! I'm sure I will think of more throughout the year even though it does kinda defeat the object. Better late than never!

After having the same hair hairstyle for nearly a year, I have decided that it may be time to finally have a change; from having a side fringe to having a middle parting! *gasp* I know it's not that much different, but it's something! Also I have been a bit naughty when it comes to my hair and I have let my split ends run wild, but this is all coming to an end tomorrow so do not fret.

I was mostly influenced to make the absolutely wild decision of getting a middle parting after scrolling through Pinterest and seeing pictures of the Olsen twins - they do own a good middle parting by giving it a messy texture for an effortless and bohemian look.

I will also be getting my long over-due highlights re-done. I think I will take a before and after shot just so you guys as well as myself can see the differences. Well, I'd better hope that I like it.
